I conducted a UKRI-Mitacs Doctoral Exchange with the University of Calgary, under the supervision of Dr Dan Shugar. I was conducting research on the potential risk of future glacial lake outburst floods across the North American Cordillera. I used glacial ice thickness data to model where glacial overdeepenings would occur across current glaciers if they all deglaciate. These were then assessed for their flood outburst potential, and had their downstream pathing computed to understand where they would track to, i.e., populated areas, or locations of cultural, environmental, or economic importance.
I learned key skills in:
International research collaboration
Experience in a different academic institution and culture
Key research methods; GIS, python coding,
I also attended local academic conferences (Northwestern Glaciologist Conference)
